Add specific question-answer pairs to train your chatbot.

What Are Q&A Pairs?

Q&A pairs are structured knowledge entries with:

  • A question (what users might ask)
  • An answer (the response your chatbot should give)

They're useful for:

  • Common questions with specific answers
  • Correcting chatbot responses
  • Adding information not in your documents
  • Ensuring consistent answers to key questions

Adding Q&A Pairs

  1. Go to your chatbot's Sources page
  2. Click Add Source
  3. Select Q&A
  4. Enter the question
  5. Enter the answer
  6. Click Save

Writing Effective Q&A Pairs

Questions

Write questions the way your users would ask them:

Good examples:

  • "What are your business hours?"
  • "How do I reset my password?"
  • "Do you offer refunds?"

Variations help: Add multiple Q&A pairs for the same topic with different phrasings:

  • "What are your hours?"
  • "When are you open?"
  • "What time do you close?"

Answers

Keep answers clear and helpful:

Good answer:

Our business hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM EST.
We're closed on weekends and major holidays.

Include actions when relevant:

To reset your password:
1. Go to the login page
2. Click "Forgot Password"
3. Enter your email address
4. Check your inbox for a reset link

Best Practices

Use Q&A Pairs For

  • FAQs - Common questions with standard answers
  • Corrections - Override incorrect responses from documents
  • Specific facts - Prices, dates, policies
  • Instructions - Step-by-step processes

Keep Answers Concise

  • Get to the point quickly
  • Use bullet points for lists
  • Break complex answers into steps

Match User Language

  • Use terms your users use
  • Avoid jargon unless necessary
  • Consider multiple ways to ask the same thing

Managing Q&A Pairs

Edit a Q&A Pair

  1. Find the Q&A pair in your Sources list
  2. Click Edit
  3. Update the question or answer
  4. Click Save

Delete a Q&A Pair

  1. Select the Q&A pair
  2. Click Delete
  3. Confirm deletion

Q&A Priority

When your chatbot finds a Q&A pair that matches a user's question closely, it prioritizes that answer over document content. This makes Q&A pairs powerful for:

  • Ensuring accurate answers to critical questions
  • Overriding outdated document information
  • Providing concise responses instead of long excerpts

Business Information

Question: "What is your refund policy?"

Answer: "We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all plans. To request a refund, contact support@example.com with your account email."

Technical Support

Question: "How do I export my data?"

Answer: "To export your data:

  1. Go to Settings > Data
  2. Click 'Export Data'
  3. Select the format (CSV or JSON)
  4. Click 'Download'
